The Secret to Contentment
Recently I received a Facebook update from some friends, “3 more sleeps…can’t wait to feel that hot white sand between my toes!” Ironically, I just read an entry from my nephew reporting from Whistler, “fresh tracks with 8 inches of snow, life is good”.
From these comments, I immediately drew the conclusion that the secret to contentment must be in having white stuff either between or around the toes. So I decided this morning to wear my white wooly socks in hopes of capturing a white fuzz ball between my toes when I retired my socks in the evening.
Unfortunately, when I put on my black suit and shoes, the words of my wife echoed in my ears, “You can’t wear white socks with your black suit and shoes!” So, I relented and was unable to capture the essence of contentment by this means.
Perhaps I just need to defer back to the words of a wise sage when he said, “for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”
